Ukraine - What kind of country is this?

It was reported this week that the President of Ukraine said the following:

“Yulia Tymoshenko will have a chance to protect herself [in court], and I’m one of those who want this to happen. I would like her to prove that the charges brought against her are false,” the Kommersant-Ukraine newspaper quoted Yanukovych as saying in an interview with CNN International news service”

This is not acceptable in my opinion.

If the Ukraine legal 'system' wants to bring an action against former Prime Minister Yulia Tymoshenko, then it is their responsibility to prove her guilt and NOT for her to prove she is innocent.

Can you imagine a person being taken into custody and presented before a court in the United Kingdom and they were then asked.....'Prove your innocence'

Ukraine is looking very bad in the eyes of many international observers.

Ukraine & Cambridge University

Well what a surprise.
A good idea from a famous Ukraine oligarch to provide funds for a Masters Programme at Cambridge University in the UK. Lets all hope its a great success and will benefit all concerned.

Back to Work

Monday 17 January and the BBCU office in Kyiv reopens.
It would appear that the country has kicked off 2011 by developing a poor image when seen from the eyes of Western Europe and indeed the rest of the world.
The big question as always is "Is it safe to invest in Ukraine"
Answers on a postcard please to the BBCU office.
